Dubai is not one photography market, it is five. Light, heat, footfall and season change completely between a desert camp at sunset and an indoor aquarium at midday, and so does the way a photographer has to work. These are the five settings we are building for, and what the job actually looks like in each one.

The desert camps are where we start. The light is the best in the emirate, the guests arrive in a good mood, and they leave within a few hours, which makes the printed photo an easy decision rather than a considered purchase.

Theme parks and indoor attractions are the highest volume setting in the city and the most operationally demanding. Throughput, queue behaviour and the position of the print point matter more here than anything to do with light.

Dubai seasonal parks and festival venues, including Global Village and Dubai Miracle Garden, run from autumn to spring. Their season opens almost exactly when we do, which is the reason this category sits in our first year rather than our second.

The Marina, Downtown and the Palm are where the highest volume of tourist photography in Dubai actually happens, and almost none of it is sold. There is no gate and no gatekeeper, which makes this category the easiest to enter and the hardest to run well.
