Dubai seasonal parks and festival venues, including Global Village and Dubai Miracle Garden, run from autumn to spring. Their season opens almost exactly when we do, which is the reason this category sits in our first year rather than our second.
The seasonal venues have a shape no other category has. They open in October, they close in spring, and inside that window the evenings are busy in a way daytime never is. Families arrive after the heat drops, stay for hours, and move slowly. Slow moving families in good light is the single best condition for this business.
Light here is a two part problem. For an hour after sunset there is a blue hour that flatters everything and needs almost no intervention. After that the venue is lit by its own installations, which are colourful, uneven and often coloured, and a photographer who does not carry and control their own light produces orange faces against a pink wall. We plan for that rather than discovering it on the first night.
The commercial catch in this category is that the season is short and the slots are allocated in advance. A festival venue plans its concessions months before it opens, and a category registration that closes in summer decides who is inside in October. That means the conversation about a season has to start long before the season, which is exactly why we are having it now.
A seasonal venue is also the cleanest place to prove a number. A short defined season with a countable gate gives a capture rate and a sell through rate that both sides can look at honestly at the end, rather than an argument about whether it worked.
